5 abandoned horses being cared for at Peaceful Ridge Rescue

Horses were part of group rescued in January

DAVIE, Fla. – Five of the 21 horses rescued in January after their owner abandoned them are now at Peaceful Ridge Rescue in Davie.

The horses were being cared for by a group at the Pompano track, but were sent back to rescue organization now that there's more room.

Ten other horses were adopted from Peaceful Ridge Rescue earlier in February, so they say they have plenty of space for the new horses.

Peaceful Ridge says the horses are in decent shape, but are still not 100 percent well.

The horses' previous owner, Benjamin Mantilla,  is facing 21 counts of animal cruelty.

In January, the animals were removed from his property on Southwest 139th Avenue.
