DAVIE, Fla. – An African grey parrot was stolen from Flamingo Gardens during the weekend.
Laura Wyatt, curator of wildlife at Flamingo Gardens, said staff members discovered Snappy was missing after arriving to feed the 35-year-old parrot Sunday morning and discovering a hole had been cut in the exotic bird's enclosure.

"He's not a particularly social bird, and has been living here happy and comfortable for so long," Wyatt said. "It pains me to think of him stressed out in a small or crowded cage waiting to be sold."
Snappy is believed to have been stolen sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
Whoever absconded with Snappy is believed to have scaled the fence to Flamingo Gardens.
Snappy can mimic the ringing noise of cellphones and can whistle Stars and Stripes Forever.
The rare Congo African grey parrots come from the Ghana region. They can be sold in the black market for about $1,500, a Flamingo Gardens representative said in a statement.
