Florida Derby winner eyes first in 139th Kentucky Derby

Florida Derby winner a favorte among handicappers

The 139th Kentucky Derby will be run today over a mile and a quarter at Churchill Downs.

A field of 19 horses will race to win the first leg of the Triple Crown.

The morning-line favorites are this year's Florida Derby winner, Orb, (7-2), the undefeated Verrazano (4-1), and Goldencents (5-1).

Rosie Napravnik is hoping to make history as the first female jockey to win the race. She'll get her chance on Mylute. Kevin Krigger is also hoping to become the first African American jockey to win the Derby since 1902. He'll get his chance on Goldencents.

South Florida's Calder Race Course is hosting a day packed full of events revolving around the running of the 139th Kentucky Derby. Local 10's own Julie Durda is representing Local 10 in the annual media foot race at 2 p.m.  The winner will receive $2,500 to donate to the charity of their choice.

South Florida's Gulfstream Park is also hosting a day full of hat contests, food, and drinks.
