Police say suspicious package turned out to be old discarded electrical parts

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A bomb squad was called out Saturday evening in Fort Lauderdale to investigate two metal boxes sitting on top of a bus bench, Fort Lauderdale police said.

No one was hurt in the incident, but police said the bomb squad took all necessary precautions at the scene, located in the 1400 block of North Federal Highway.

Authorities said they did not believe the suspicious package was ever a threat to the community.

Police said the suspicious package turned out to be old discarded electrical parts.

North Federal Highway was reopened shortly after the bomb squad left the scene.
