POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Veterans in Need Foundation President Joseph Haddy invited Local 10 News to tour the second floor units of 1350 South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach where he houses veterans.
Haddy showed off tidier rooms, a broken door that has since been fixed and said he did not know the commercial building is zoned for heavy business, meaning people are not allowed to live in the office spaces.
Haddy presented several veterans to speak on behalf of the program.
Haddy said the work program he offers veterans is allowing them to raise funds at rest stops across Florida.
As for the bed bugs caught on camera crawling out of a mattress, Haddy said it wasn't the result of cash donations not filtering down to the housing he provides but rather an issue of hygiene.
Roger Jones went on camera again, this time to take the blame for some of the conditions.
Two years ago in 2012, Haddy told the Internal Revenue Service he pulled in close to $500,000, spending more than $100,000 on housing.
