Detectives said Marks befriended Clifford Rogerson in November 2012 at a Walgreens in Pompano Beach. The relationship was formed, detectives said, when Rogerson loaned her $1 at the register and asked for her name and telephone number.

They held hands, kissed and regularly dined together, but soon Rogerson began loaning Marks money, which she promised to repay after the sale of her father's business, detectives said.

When Rogerson's retirement account dissipated, Marks vanished. He last heard from her in February, when she called from a blocked number and told him she no longer had a cellphone, detectives said.

In the course of three months, Rogerson loaned Marks more than $20,000, detectives said.

Rogerson reported the crime in May 2013.
