Girl bitten by snake outside home in Davie

Authorities: Black racer snake not venomous

DAVIE, Fla. – An 8-year-old girl suffered two puncture wounds on her leg after she was bitten by a black racer snake in Davie.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon outside her home on Southwest 71 Terrace off 39 Street.

The parents of Samaria Castro say they just moved into the neighborhood a week ago.

"All of a sudden my daughter was walking ahead of me, and the snake just cut across and took a shot at her," says Samaria's father.

Fire Rescue and police responded to the scene and captured the snake, which they say is very aggressive.

Authorities say the snake was not venomous and the child is expected to be fine.
