William Shuford is accused of snatching a woman's purse.

MIAMI ā€“ A good Samaritan helped police catch a purse-snatching suspect in Miami.

Miami Police Officer Rene Pimentel said a woman was walking on Northeast 82nd Street near Northeast Third Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when a man, later identified as William Shuford, snatched her purse.

Shuford ran off with the woman's purse, but Fernando Lopez heard the woman screaming, pulled up in his car next to Shuford and told him to return the purse, Pimentel said.

After Shuford refused and continued running, Lopez got out of his car and started chasing after him, Pimentel said.

Lopez eventually caught up with Shuford and, with the help of others, detained him until police arrived, Pimentel said.

Shuford faces charges of robbery and battery on a person 65 or older. Police said Shuford was also wanted on an unrelated charge of simple assault.
