Head placed on Pegasus statue Monday at Gulfstream Park

110-foot statue to be centerpiece of new water park

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Slated as the biggest horse statue in the world, the years-long construction of Pegasus at Gulfstream Park came to a head Monday.

Chief engineer Michael Stark has overseen the construction of Pegasus from the start and is happy to finally see it all come together.

"It's way more than just a horse," said Stark. "It's a Pegasus. A Pegasus is a symbol of strength and elegance."

The statue is 110 feet tall and will be the centerpiece of a water park being added to the property.

The crew of nearly 100 workers can finally breathe a breath of fresh air as the delicate process of placing the head on the statue is complete. And while strong winds were a concern Monday, moving forward Pegasus will be able to withstand even the toughest South Florida weather.

"If I were here during a hurricane, I would evacuate into this structure," joked Stark.
