LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. -

Animal Control officers are investigating after horse remains were found in a canal in Palm Beach County.

It appears the remains were dumped in the canal in Loxahatchee.

The investigation into the discovery has just begun, and police said they had no idea who had left the remains in the water.

Sale of horse meat is illegal in Florida.

There have been many cases recently in South Florida of horses stolen and butchered for their meat.
