Human remains found in canal identified as those of Raquel Calderin

Calderin missing since Sept. 2012

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County medical examiner has identified human remains found inside a vehicle submerged in a canal as those of Raquel Calderin.

Calderin has been missing since Sept. 4, 2012. She was last seen having a verbal altercation with her estranged husband, Jesus Maqueira, at the school where she worked as a custodian.

Her remains were found earlier this week in a canal on Krome Avenue, one mile north of Southwest Eighth Street in west Miami-Dade County.

Maqueira is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated stalking.
