Jimmy Daniel free on bond after police-involved shooting at Aventura Target

Police say officers opened fire at shoplifting suspect after he tried to run them over with car

MIAMI – A shoplifting suspect who police said tried to run over two officers with his car has been released on bond.

Jimmy Daniel, 29, was released from jail on $32,500 bond Wednesday morning, one day after police said they were forced to open fire at him in the parking lot of a Target store in Aventura.

Aventura police were notified by loss prevention that Daniel, a known shoplifter, was in the store using a screwdriver to break open video games and stuff them in his pants.

When police tried to confront him, he ran through the aisles and into the parking lot.

Police followed him outside, where he got into a black Acura TL.

"He was given verbal commands to get out of his car, at which point he attempted to run over two of our officers," Capt. Michael Bentolila told Local 10 News.

Bentolila said the officers opened fire at the car, striking the back windshield.

Police said the man was later apprehended by U.S. marshals in North Lauderdale, where he hid the car in a friend's garage.

Daniel faces multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

No officers were injured.
