Jury selected in Eric Ellington trial

Suspect accused of fatally shooting man, girlfriend outside Miami Gardens gas station

MIAMI ā€“ A jury was selected Tuesday in the trial of a teenager accused of killing two people at a Miami Gardens gas station in 2011.

Police said Eric Ellington fatally shot Julian Soler, 23, and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Kennia Duran, on July 25, 2011. Ellington was 16 at the time.

Surveillance video shows the couple stopping to get gas in Soler's Ford Mustang.

The footage shows an SUV pull up, and a gunman is seen forcing Soler out of the car and then opening fire.

Soler died at the scene. Duran was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Ellington faces several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, armed carjacking and armed robbery.

Opening statements were scheduled to begin Wednesday morning.
