Todd Alexander charged after dog found duct taped in bag

Man facing cruelty to animal charges

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A Key Largo man is now under arrest and facing animal cruelty charges after investigators said he beat his dog with a metal pipe and taped her mouth and nose shut.

Todd Alexander, 36, was arrested on Friday and charged with cruelty to animals and use of a weapon during the commission of a felony.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies said Alexander used gray duct tape to tape his 8-year-old pit bull's mouth and nose and left her for two days without water or food.

He is then accused of beating the dog on the head and body with a pipe.

Veterinarians were forced to euthanize the pit bull after it was found duct taped in a plastic bag alongside a road in Key Largo.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a good Samaritan saw the black bag moving alongside Gun Club Road on July 22.

Daniel Rossler, 52, cut the bag open and found the pit bull inside. Deputies said the dog was bound by duct tape, but had managed to partially tear its way out of the bag.

The dog was taken to an animal shelter for treatment, where veterinarians discovered it had severe head wounds and possible internal injuries. The dog was eventually euthanized, because its injuries were too severe and it was suffering.
