FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A former ice cream man who fatally stabbed his girlfriend has been sentenced to life in prison.

Broward County Judge Ilona Holmes gave Larry Daughtry the maximum sentence allowed by law Friday.

Daughtry was convicted of first-degree murder last month in the May 2008 stabbing death of his girlfriend, Diana Lawhorn.

He stabbed Lawhorn 25 times and slit her throat, leaving her to die in her apartment.

Daughtry was captured a few days later in Lake City, where he checked into a hospital under a false name to be treated for knife wounds.
