Liquid oxygen leaks from tank at Port Everglades

Firefighters douse tank with water, try to keep it cool

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Liquid oxygen was leaking from a 5,000-gallon tank at Port Everglades, prompting a partial shutdown Monday.

A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy noticed the leak just before 2 p.m. and notified BSO's Department of Fire Rescue.

Firefighters arrived and were dousing the tank with water as they worked to lower the temperature, which reached up to 120 degrees.

Officials believe a faulty relief valve may be to blame for the leak.

Firefighters were slowly releasing the liquid oxygen.

A portion of the port had to be evacuated, and boat traffic was being held at the Dania cut-off canal.
