Police respond to shooting outside Publix in Miramar

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after gunfire erupted in a busy Publix parking lot in Broward County following an altercation between two people that turned physical.

It happened just after 7 p.m. Friday at the Publix located along the 9000 block of Miramar Parkway.

“This is normally a safe area,” said Lovely Seraphin, who works at nearby SND Signature Cuts and Salon. “So this right here is not a typical.”

Yellow crime scene tape was blocking off half of the grocery store’s entrance and a sedan was left in the middle of the road.

“It was a road rage incident,” said Seraphin. “They started arguing with each other.”

According to police, two adults got into an altercation that turned physical outside of Publix and at one point, one of the adults pulled out a gun and shot at the other, missing the victim.

The gunman is said to have fled from scene.

Many who work in the plaza, like Seraphin, were thankful others were not injured.

“This right here is definitely shocking, it’s too close to home,” she said. “Not in Miramar.”

Authorities said they were searching for the shooter and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
