MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A 25-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on accusations that he severely beat his younger sister earlier this month, Miami Gardens police said.

According to his arrest report, an officer responded to the victim’s school on April 3 after a school counselor noticed that the girl had several bruises on her face and body.

Police said the victim, whose age was not disclosed in the report, would not tell officers how she sustained the injuries.

According to the report, the victim was interviewed the next day at the University of Miami Child Protection Team, where she admitted that her brother, Alquez Markeesse Griffin, began questioning her about her whereabouts and then dragged her into a bedroom where he repeatedly punched her in the face, back and stomach area.

Police said the victim claimed Griffin also repeatedly struck her with a curtain rod and then choked her until she nearly passed out.

According to the report, the victim stopped moving at one point, so Griffin placed her in a bathtub and poured water on her until she was fully alert.

The victim did not go to school the next day. She told police that her brother ordered her to say she fell at a park if anyone questioned her injuries.

He also told her he beat her because “he cares and loves her,” and then told her to put shea or cocoa butter on her bruises, according to the report.

Police noted in the arrest report that the victim had blood in her eyes and marks and bruises on her hands, arms, right shoulder, shins and the front and back of both thighs. She also had scratches on her neck and redness around both eyes.

Police said Griffin responded to the Miami Gardens police station Tuesday, but refused to answer any questions.

According to the report, he refused to place his cellphone on the table or place his hands behind his back and multiple officers were needed to take him into custody.

Griffin faces charges of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm, domestic battery by strangulation and resisting an officer without violence.

As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $4,500.
