WYNWOOD, Fla. – Get ready to start your engines, South Florida! Formula 1 has officially rolled into town.
Formula 1 is quite literally the world’s most prestigious motor racing competition. This weekend-long event descending on Miami for the third consecutive year.
The official kick-off is Friday, but the fandemonium can already be felt across town.
People are visiting from all over the world to experience the event.
“I am from Colombia but we live now in Washington, D.C.,” said Dehiner Lopez. “I really like the F1 so when we decided to come to Miami, I didn’t see that the Miami Grand Prix (was happening), and then I just bought the tickets for Saturday.”
With the Miami Grand Prix coinciding with their visit, fans like her eagerly secure tickets for the thrilling races.
“I really like the F1, so when we decided to come to Miami, I didn’t see that the Miami Grand Prix was this weekend and then I just bought the tickets for Saturday,” said a racing fan.
And what better place to enjoy all the fanfare than in the heart of the action — in Wynwood.
Racing Fan Fest is a free event that kicked off Thursday.
There will be exclusive activations, interactive innovations and lots more.
It is great for the world of motorsports, for Formula 1 fans and for South Florida’s economy which expects to see a huge economic boost from this weekend.
Amidst the race simulators and exhibits showcasing race cars, numerous self-proclaimed experts could be found placing their bets and sharing their insights.
“Number one [Max] Verstappen, number two [Charles] Leclerc and number three Lando [Norris],” said a Formula 1 fan when making his prediction.
Verstappen’s fellow Dutchmen were also in attendance for the big event.
Ferrari fan Federico Tirelli picked Carlos Sainz Jr. to win the event.
“That’s the beauty of F1 you never know what could happen. Ferrari might win, McLaren might win. You never know,” he said. “Like to be honest I was not an F1 fan, but I have three boys and I have a husband who is fan, and when it came to Miami and Max Verstappen won, there was no doubt that we had to follow, so we come here every year”
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where Tom Brady, Ed Sheeran and Tommy Hilfiger were spotted at the event.
Super Bowl Champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are expected to attend the event on Sunday.
The actual Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix racing will be happening outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens at the Miami International Autodome.
Expect road closures and traffic delays near the main event, mainly affecting the Florida Turnpike near Hard Rock Stadium.
