Woman dies after hit-and-run crash in Miami-Dade’s Golden Glades

Fatal hit-and-run victim was known as street vendor

Detectives were investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash on Sunday in northeastern Miami-Dade County, police said.

According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a Miami-Dade Police Department spokesman, officers found a woman dead at about 5:25 a.m., in Golden Glades.

Abel Jayden, 16, said she knew the victim as a street vendor she had last seen on Saturday.

“She was like, ‘Oh! I am coming tomorrow,’” Jayden said.

Police officers parked unmarked and marked cars and used yellow crime scene tape and signs to block an area of Sixth Avenue, in both directions, at 149 Street.

“An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on NE 6 Ave approaching NE 149 Street when an adult female was attempting to cross east to west and was struck,” Rodriguez wrote in a statement.

The department’s traffic homicide unit was leading the investigation, according to Rodriguez.

Two unmarked white police sports utility vehicles blocked a body near the closed entrance to a BP gas station and the Tony Kabal Depot Fish Market & Cafeteria.

“We really saw the aftermath, and the lady on the ground,” Jayden said. “It was a very scary sight to see.”

According to unconfirmed police scanner traffic, police officers were searching for a burgundy Jeep Liberty after the fatal hit-and-run crash. Rodriguez did not confirm the initial be-on-the-look-out alert.

“The unknown subject vehicle fled the scene without stopping to render aid nor call 9-1-1,” Rodriguez wrote. “Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and determined she was deceased on the scene.”

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
