Police: Student arrested after altercation with security guard in Miami-Dade school cafeteria

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A Miami Gardens teenager was arrested Tuesday after he got into an altercation with a school security guard, authorities confirmed.

According to his arrest report, the incident occurred Monday at Miami Carol City Senior High School, located at 3301 Miami Gardens Drive.

Miami-Dade Schools Police said an altercation took place between students in the cafeteria during lunch when a school security guard extended both of his arms to keep Mitchel Christophe McField from re-entering the cafeteria.

Police said McField pushed the security guard’s arm away, pushed him in the chest and said, “Get away from me mother*****” before pushing him once again.

According to the report, two employees witnessed the incident and provided written statements to police.

Police said McField gave a statement to officers, however his statement was redacted from the publicly released report.

McField was arrested on a charge of battery on a school employee/official.

He was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained held Wednesday on a $5,000 bond.

The school district released the following statement to Local 10 News Wednesday:

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is aware of an altercation between a student from Miami Carol City Senior High School and school personnel that occurred earlier this week. The student involved has been arrested by Miami-Dade Schools Police and he will be disciplined according to the Code of Student Conduct. The safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance. This school district goes to great lengths to promote the values of restraint and respect. We ask that parents reinforce these principles at home.”
