Police say a man in Northwest Miami-Dade nearly drowned Sunday afternoon.
The brother of the victim, Jeremy Sawyer, 24, said Sawyer was seen getting into a lake behind the house where they were having a family get together at 14120 NW 14th Avenue. The brother said Sawyer was under the water for 10 minutes.
Because the first responders were not certified scuba divers, they had to wait until the second responders, who were certified scuba divers, to pull Sawyer out of the water.
Sawyer was taken to the hospital in critical condition
According to the brother, Sawyer suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia, has had brain surgery and had a stroke two years ago.
