Deputies on Tuesday arrested a man who they say was acting suspiciously before they found a gun hidden in the waistband of his pants.
A Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputy saw Robert Christiansen trying to aggressively stop traffic, police say. When drivers failed to stop, he put his thumb out as if to hitchhike, which is illegal.
When the deputy stopped Christiansen and asked if he had any weapons, Christiansen said he had a pocket knife, police say. The deputy then handcuffed Christiansen because he kept moving his hands.
The deputy tried removing a handgun he found sticking out of Christiansen's waistband, but Christiansen also reached for it, police say.
When the deputy removed the handgun, Christiansen was arrested. He was charged with carrying a concealed firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.
