Man arrested in Coral Gables armed burglary

Police say man approached woman, brandished handgun, stole jewelry

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A 28-year-old man was arrested Thursday for an armed burglary that took place at a home in Coral Gables.

The incident happened at 12:41 p.m. Thursday at 198 Sunrise Ave.

Coral Gables police said Vaughn Cooper Jr. approached a woman through her garage, brandished a handgun and stole her jewelry before fleeing.

Around the same time of the incident, police said dispatch received a call for a suspicious vehicle seen leaving the area.

Through the continued investigation, authorities located the vehicle, a green Toyota Camry, with Cooper Jr. inside, police said.

Cooper Jr. was charged with one count of armed burglary with a battery and one count of armed robbery. Police said Cooper Jr. was taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
