Man barricades self inside Miami Gardens home, holds daughter hostage

Franklin Bain arrested after police standoff

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An armed fugitive wanted for armed sexual battery and attempted homicide held a woman hostage and barricaded himself inside a Miami Gardens home Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Miami Gardens police Detective Michael Wright identified the gunman as 49-year-old Franklin Bain. Records show he has a long criminal history that includes child abuse, battery on a police officer, burglary and obstruction of justice.

Police tried to serve a warrant at the house Monday, but Franklin Bain wasn't home.

The boyfriend of Franklin Bain's daughter, 22-year-old Francis Bain, called police, saying he received a text message from Francis Bain that said she was being held against her will by her father inside the home.

Miami-Dade and Miami Gardens police officers surrounded the area of 2409 NW 27 Court.

Wright said the SWAT team was using chemical gas after trying to negotiate with Franklin Bain.

Francis Bain was released and Franklin Bain barricaded himself in the house. He then ran out of the house, but police caught him about 6 p.m. after about a three-hour standoff.

Police arrested Franklin Bain and took him into custody on false imprisonment charges.
