MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-year-old boy drowned Sunday in a Cutler Bay lake.
Several teens were swimming in the lake near Southwest 205th Street and Southwest 80th Court when they saw their friend Armani English sink into the water, police said.
The teens told police they wanted to help him but couldn't find him and called 911.
Rescuers located English's body and removed him from the water about 5 p.m. before taking him to Jackson Memorial Hospital South, where he was pronounced dead.
English was a freshman at Coral Gables Senior High School, where he played basketball. His father is a Miami police officer and was at the scene when his son's body was pulled from the water.
Miami-Dade police are investigating the drowning.
No other details were immediately released.
