Man shoots at police, falls off balcony

Jacobo Bernstein-Firum, 40, arrested

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was arrested Wednesday after shooting at police, then falling from his balcony.

Police responded to reports of multiple shots being fired and a man who was displaying erratic behavior from a townhouse at 713 Southwest Eighth Avenue around 3:50 a.m.

When police arrived, 40-year-old Jacobo Bernstein-Firum, who was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, fired two rounds in the direction of the officers.

Officials established a perimeter that was blocked off while SWAT began arriving.

Bernstein-Firum lost his balance while standing on the balcony and fell onto the paved driveway.

Bernstein-Firum sustained non-life threatening facial injures.

A fully loaded semi-automatic handgun and an additional reloading device were recovered from the residence.

No police were injured in the shooting.
