OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A clumsy thief spent a lot of time looking around to make sure no one saw him at a rental office in Oakland Park, as surveillance cameras captured his unsuccessful heist. Police released images of him Friday.

The man -- who has a cross tattooed on his cheek bone, under his right eye -- was being accused of stealing checks from leasing offices in Broward County.

Broward Sheriff's Office released a sketch of a suspected thief Friday.

A screen grab of surveillance video taken about 5 a.m., Jan. 4, at Courts at Oakland Park, 95 NE 41st St.,  showed him looking paranoid. And as much as he tried, he couldn't get to the rental checks and money orders that tenants deposited in the leasing office's drop box.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies believe he is to blame for the theft of rental checks and money orders at other leasing offices in Broward. In an effort to catch him, Det. John McMahon drew a sketch of the suspect based on surveillance video screen grabs.
