Burglar searches for lost item after taking cash box

Surveillance video at Pronto Mowers in Deerfield Beach captures burglary

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are asking for the help finding a man who detectives say broke into a Deerfield Beach business and got away with several hundred dollars.

The surveillance cameras at Pronto Mowers captured the burglar at 1:35 a.m. on Oct. 9.

"He was crazy," said employee Avery Canpesi.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the unmasked burglar seemed to know exactly where to go inside the store. In less than a minute, he broke the glass door, ran to the register area and grabbed the store's cash box.

His quick getaway was halted when deputies said he returned to the store to look for an item he dropped on the floor, and was captured on camera for an additional nine minutes.

"I wouldn't have done that. I wouldn't have come back 10 minutes later," said Canpesi. "It happens to everybody. Its happens unless you stop them."

Those with information about this burglary may call Det. Barbara Dyer at 954-480-4287 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online here. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
