Thousands gather at Bayfront Park to watch fireworks above Biscayne Bay

Thosands pack Downtown Miami to celebrate nation's 237th birthday

MIAMI – America's birthday bash at Bayfront Park went out with one big bang after another over Biscayne Bay.

"They're loud, but they look pretty though," said one spectator.

Local 10's Baron James reports plenty of people gathered at Miami's Bayfront Park to celebrate Independence Day and watch the fireworks.

"This is a great country, I'm very happy," said one celebration goer.

Many proud Americans, some hailing from other countries, celebrated on July Fourth. Some showed up sporting their patriotism by wearing red, white and blue costumes.

Cameras were used to capture and share many moments across social media as thousands packed the park in Downtown Miami to celebrate the nation's 237th birthday.

Sgt. Eric Gregory, who was stationed in Afghanistan, joined in on the celebration after coming home three months ago.

"I haven't seen my wife in a whole year," said Gregory. "To see this kind of support from people, it's really great."

There was something for everyone to enjoy as Miami celebrated its independence. There were all kinds of food being served with pork from Cuba to M&M's ribs. Free flags were also being given away souvenirs.

Many also paid tribute to the police and other security present in and around the park who kept this event safe.

"I've lived overseas. You really appreciate it once you've lived somewhere else and come back," said Kevin Blake.

Security was also tight at Bayfront Park as no bottles, coolers or personal fireworks were allowed, and all backpacks were checked.
