MDFR conducts fireworks safety sweep ahead of Fourth of July

Authorities say anything that pops, flies is illegal

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – With the Fourth of July just one day away, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue conducted its annual safety sweep of local fireworks stands.

"If it pops or goes up in the air, it's illegal," said Monica Arrojo of MDFR.

Statistics show that every year thousands of people across the United States are treated for fireworks-related injuries. To help prevent those injuries, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is doing their part to make sure illegal fireworks aren't being sold.

"We make sure that there is nothing that flies up in the air, and that it stays that way," said Arrojo.

Authorities say the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to leave it to the professionals.
