Men recovering after 8 days lost at sea

Coast Guard picks up 2 Bahamian fishermen

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Two Bahamian fishermen were recovering Monday after spending eight days lost at sea.

A crew aboard a freighter noticed the two men clinging to their capsized boat east of Rivera Beach on Saturday. A U.S. Coast Guard crew nearby on a training exercise then picked them up.

"They were really tired. They were really dehydrated and they were really happy to see us," said Coast Guard Officer Kyle Stallings. "They were on their last ray of hope."

Both men -- said to be in their 50s -- were taken to the Delray Beach Medical Center.

Coast Guard officials said they didn't receive any distress calls about the fishermen.
