MIA concourse reopens after suspicious item found

Concourse J shut down for 1 hour

MIAMI – Concourse J at Miami International Airport reopened about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after police investigated a suspicious item found during a routine security sweep.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, about 7:30 a.m., a police K-9 alerted officers to a pallet used to load equipment and materials at the airport.

"They found something because they started shouting, 'Exit! Exit! Everybody out!'" said Laila Amarillo. "I know that some people were worried because they have to take another plane and they have to claim their baggage after."

Police moved the pallet. The bomb squad later gave an all clear.

Police believe dental equipment may have triggered the alert.

An airport spokesman said the evacuation delayed one departing and one arriving flight by about 30 minutes.
