MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The city of Miami Beach will launch on Monday a new free trolley transportation service for Alton Road and West Avenue that will operate through the end of construction in 2015.
The city said it is launching the service in an effort to improve access to the businesses along Alton Road and West Avenue during Florida Department of Transportation construction.
The Alton/West Loop trolleys will travel from Fifth Street to Lincoln Road, along Alton Road and West Avenue, with 20 stops along the way.
The free service will run every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Sunday, according to the city.
The trolley has a capacity of 25 passengers, an external bike rack and free Wi-Fi, which the city said will be coming soon.
The trolley service is accessible from several parking facilities along the way. City officials said people are encouraged to park at the Fifth & Alton Garage, where parking will be free for up to four hours with the use of the trolley voucher.
A pilot valet parking service will also begin soon on 11th Street between Alton Road and West Avenue at $5 for up to three hours, and $8 for up to six hours, officials said.
The city said a ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural ride will take place Monday, beginning at the Fifth Street and Lenox Avenue bus stop in Miami Beach.
