Miami Beach woman celebrates 100th birthday

Belle Lehrman: 'I'm a lucky, lucky lady'

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – It was a birthday celebration a century in the making. Family, friends and loved ones gathered to wish Belle Lehrman a happy 100th birthday.

A party honoring her life was held at Temple Emanu-El. Lehrman's late husband, Rabbi Irvin Lehrman, founded the temple on the corner of Washington Avenue and 17th Street.

"I never expected this. I'm a lucky, lucky lady," said Belle Lehrman.

Belle Lehrman and her late husband were together for almost 70 years, before he passed away in 2005.

"She has the been the strength behind the dream of this temple," added Rabbi Marc Philippe.

A slideshow was shown at her party. Belle Lehrman smiled as she saw pictures of her life through the years. She said she credits her faith, and love of family for living a long and happy life.

"It's the most exciting part of my life," she said with a bright smile on her face.
