Texas woman said she couldn't care for her child

Police say Stephanie Redus tried to get her three year old son adopted by putting a posting on Craigslist.

Houston Police said that Stephanie Redus of Huffman, signed a posting on Craigslist as Desperate, saying that she was a single mom who couldn't care for her son.

The posting read: "Hi, I'm trying to adopt out my three year old son. I'm not in a good place in my life and don't feel like I can care for him properly, but I don't know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I'm a single mom and can't do this. Thanks, Desperate."

HPD is charging Redus with a misdemeanor offense, saying that she  "unlawfully intentionally and knowingly advertised in the public media, namely Craigslist, her son, Conner Danger Redus, for adoption." The posting was placed on May 1, according to police.

A database search uncovered the woman's Yahoo email address and phone number after a subpoena was submitted to Craiglist by a peace officer with the Houston Police Department.

Redus told HPD that she did make the post but never intended to give her child up for adoption, according to a police report. She also told HPD that she is pregnant and was not able to "take her medication to combat her depression and her anxiety." She told police she did respond to several reply messages to adopt her son.

Authorities said the woman told them she posted the notice to Craigslist while she was at work at a company in Humble. Police did not release where the woman worked.
