More than 8,000 Floridians to receive payments from SunTrust settlement

Claims required to be submitted by June 4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 8,000 Floridians are expected to receive claim forms for payments resulting from a SunTrust settlement this week.

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday that those whose mortgages were serviced by SunTrust Mortgage, Inc. and lost their homes to foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2013, are eligible for a refund.

SunTrust agreed to the joint state-federal settlement in July 2014 after the bank was accused of origination, servicing and foreclosure abuses.

According to the Attorney General's Office, Sun Trust foreclosed more than 45,000 homes during the five-year period covered by the settlement.

Eligible claimants will receive a minimum of $850 for each loan. A total of $6.5 million is expected to go to Floridians, with about $39 million going to claimants nationwide.

All claims are required to be submitted by June 4.
