MIAMI – The trial of a man accused of fatally shooting a Miami police detective in 2008 was put on hold for much of Thursday, as defense attorneys questioned one of the witnesses privately.
A prison inmate was expected to take the stand, but the defense wanted to first question him about the plea deal he made with the state in exchange for his testimony against Andrew Rolle.
The inmate is also said to be a co-conspirator of Rolle's in another crime.
Earlier in the day, jurors saw a semi-automatic rifle and bullet found at the scene where Det. James Walker was shot and killed. Prosecutors say the gun belonged to Rolle, but was stolen. They claim he was in the North Miami Beach neighborhood to get the gun back and get revenge on the thieves.
The trial is expected to last late into the day as one detective is expected to testify, and Thursday is the only day he is available.
The trial is expected to wrap up next week.
