New K-9 training facility pay tribute to fallen Marine

Marine Corps Lance Corporal Colton Rusk honored

MIAMI – The unveiling of Miami International Airport's new canine training area for the Miami-Dade Police Department's Airport District served as a dedication ceremony to the fallen Marine after which it is named: Marine Corps Lance Corporal Colton Rusk.

Three years ago in Afghanistan the Rusk, a Marine Corps canine handler and his K-9 partner, Eli, were in the process of clearing an improvised explosive device when Rusk was killed by an enemy sniper.

As a further tribute, the Department of Defense named one of its Lackland Air Force Base-trained dogs after Rusk.

K-9 Colton has been assigned to Miami Dade Police Sgt. David Dominguez to work in the TSA area detecting explosives.

Rusk's mom thanked the crowd, explaining how by honoring her son, his memory was being kept alive.
