No body found after teen reports dad drowned

Steve Uwanawich, 33, jumped in lake after fleeing crash

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – After a two-day search, police came up with no body after a 15-year-old told them he and his dad jumped in a lake Wednesday around 1:40 a.m.

Coconut Creek police said a car belonging to Steve Uwanawich, 33, was found abandoned after he and his son jumped in a lake just north of a casino at 5550 Wiles Road. The two were fleeing the scene of a crash at 5550 NW 40th St.

The 15-year-old found an officer a short time later. He told police that his dad did not make it across the lake and that he thought he may have drowned.

Divers continued searching for his body on Friday.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they have seen Uwanawich.

He is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair.
