The Broward Sheriff's Office hasn't released the cause of death of an elderly couple who were killed inside their apartment in Deerfield Beach, only saying the couple died violently.
Barbara Russo, 78, and her husband, Phillip Russo, 88, were found by their daughter Monday night.
"This is a terrible tragedy," said family friend, Tom Newton. "They (the family) is very distraught, shocked. Phillip is just a wonderful guy. He's a combat veteran from World War II, retired. His wife -- just a wonderful woman."
Police haven't released a motive.
"Shocked. I was very shocked," said Diane Gagliano. "We are trying to watch out for each other now, but there's a lot of renters in here, so we don't know who these people are."
An award of up to $3,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
"I don't know what the answer is but I hope they catch these people," said Gagliano.
"Just, please, if you have any information about this, help find these people," added Newton.
If you have any information that can help, call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
