It was a moment 42 years in the making. The final few classrooms of the old Cooper City High School were demolished Monday afternoon.
Demolition crews have been chipping away at the aging structure for about three months since the brand-new building opened to students in November.
"I actually saw the school built in ‘72," Mark Rosenberg told Local 10.
Rosenberg, who graduated in 1975, was in the first class that completed all four years at Cooper City High.
"(We had) a lot of fond memories," he said.
A few dozen students, parents, teachers and alumni gathered to watch the end of this era. Although the old building may be gone, the memories created there still stand tall.
"It's bittersweet," former student and current teacher Michelle Jutton said. "It's sad, but I know it had to come down. It was bad."
