PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Police are investigating after a Miami police officer was found dead inside a Pembroke Pines home.
Officers went to 2180 NW 93rd Ave. shortly after 2:45 p.m. Friday to conduct a welfare check.
Police said when officers entered the home, they found Carl Patrick shot to death.
Patrick, 52, had a military past. He was in the U.S Air Force and U.S Army.
Family members said his mother Lucille was the love of his life. He would have brought her a dozen roses for Mother's Day this year. Instead, it was Patrick's sister who delivered those roses.
Miami Police Department Sergeant Javier Ortiz released a statement Sunday:
"Based on the information the Miami Fraternal Order of Police has obtained, brother Carl Patrick was killed wearing his Miami police uniform. His lunch box, as well as his city laptop, were inside his police car, which is consistent with brother Carl going to work in order to protect the community of the city of Miami. We are confident that the city of Miami will treat his murder as a line of duty death. Please cover your badge in honor of our fallen brother Miami Police Officer Carl Patrick."

The Broward Sheriff's Office is assisting the Pembroke Pines Police Department in this case. Miami police also arrived at the scene Friday night.
