People write uplifting messages on 'I Will' wall in Coconut Grove

Rabbi creates wall in hopes of encouraging people to make positive changes

COCONUT GROVE, Fla. ā€“ The simple wall of the Chabad of Coconut Grove has been converted into a wall of positive messages and hope.

The rabbi who came up with the idea told Local 10 News that he hopes the chalkboard plywood wall at the Bet Ovadia synagogue inspires people to make positive changes in their lives.

The "I Will" wall is 25 feet long, and includes messages like "I will love" and "I will be kind."

Other messages go a step further, with the wall also serving as a confessional of sorts. One message reads, "I will forgive Mr. Lewis."

"We put it up Monday evening at about 7:30, and the next morning we were shocked to find the entire wall as filled out," said Rabbi Getzy Fellig. Ā

Fellig said he wanted people to engage in something that would be positive, and show that the world can be a good place.

The wall is along a popular jogging spot in the Grove along Main Highway, and more people were spotted writing messages on Wednesday.

"I wrote to focus on more important things in life," said passerby Senen Garcia.

So far, there are more than 100 messages written on the wall.

More plywood will be added to the wall, as most of it has been filled from top to bottom. Fellig said he is unsure how long the wall will be up, but he's hoping to keep it up as long as possible.
