Tow truck driver says someone fired several shots while she attempted to tow vehicle

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Police are investigating after a tow truck driver said someone fired several shots while she was attempting to tow a vehicle out of a Lauderhill apartment complex.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Lauderhill police officers responded to 5231 Northwest 27th Street after reports of shots fired.

A tow truck driver with Johnson Towing, called to tow a car without tags from the property, told police that a group of people was being hostile with her. Shortly afterwards, she said she heard several gunshots.

Investigators said the group of people, possibly connected to those who were allegedly acting hostile, ran into a nearby apartment.

When officers were able to locate the them, the tow truck driver could not identify anyone in the group as the shooter, and police said no weapons were found.

No injuries have been reported and police said no casings or projectiles were recovered at the scene.

Police continue to investigate.

The tow truck driver, identified as Blanche Duncan, said working as a tow truck driver is a dangerous job.

"When the people get mad, they shouldn't get mad at the towing company because we are authorized to tow these vehicles," Duncan said. "It's a job that I have to do."
