Port St. Lucie police: Armed man sought in double shooting

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – An armed man is currently being sought by Port St. Lucie police in connection to a double shooting that left a 70-year-old man and 7-year-old boy in critical condition.

Police arrived at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to a house at 213 S.W. Kentwood Rd. to investigate the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed Brandon Lamar Hawkins, 24, was at the house and had an argument with his girlfriend, police said.

During the argument, police said Hawkins shot his girlfriend's 70-year-old stepfather.

Hawkins' girlfriend left the house with her 7-year-old son in tow, trying to seek refuge at a neighbor's house. As the two were running from the scene, Hawkins shot the 7-year-old boy, police said.

Hawkins then fled the scene in a black pickup truck, which police found abandoned at a local gas station parking lot in the 300 block of S.W. Tulip Boulevard.

The victims were taken to an area hospital in critical condition, police said.

Hawkins is described as a black man who is 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
