Puppy rescued from Pompano Beach storm drain

6-pound Havanese puppy fell into pipe while being walked without leash

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A 12-week old Havanese puppy named Lucy was rescued by firefighters from a Pompano Beach storm drain Thursday.

Firefighters said Lucy's owner did not have her on a leash when the 6-pound puppy darted toward some bushes and fell into the pipe.

Firefighters used their hands to try to dig around the pipe and reach the dog, but couldn't get to her. Eventually they were able to lasso the puppy with her leash around her body and pull her up to safety.

Paramedics used an oxygen mask to help revive the dog. Authorities said Lucy was tired and wet but did not have any obvious physical injuries.
