Refurbished Museum Park Metromover station to reopen Monday

Station formally known as Bicentennial Park Station to open at noon

MIAMI – Miami-Dade Transit says it will reopen the refurbished Museum Park Metromover station at 12 p.m. on Monday.

The station, formerly known as Bicentennial Park Station, is near the northwest corner of Bicentennial Park and is one of the stations on Metromover's Omni Loop.

For more than a decade, city officials said the station remained closed, but with the renaissance of the Bicentennial Park area and the addition of the newly built Pérez Art Museum, as well as the upcoming Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, Miami-Dade Transit invested approximately $2.4 million to renovate the station.

Funding came from both the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 funds as well as from the People's Transportation Plan surtax and local funds, official said.

"The reopening of the Museum Park Metromover station is representative of how vital public transportation has become to making our community a vibrant and easily accessible place for residents and visitors," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.

The Museum Park Station's improvements include new escalators and elevators, lush landscaping, an LED lighting system and a state-of-the-art security camera system, among other upgrades, according to Miami-Dade Transit.

Miami-Dade Transit encourages those who wish to visit the new museums to take Metromover, which they said is free to everyone and runs every day, from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m.
