A Miami man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his mistress and dumping her body near the Everglades.

Roque Torres, 64, was sentenced by a Miami-Dade County judge Wednesday.

Jurors in March convicted him of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutors say Torres shot Marisol Ramon during an argument inside his SUV in May 2010. After dumping the body in a rural area near the Broward-Palm Beach County line, Torres abandoned the SUV and fled to Central America.

Torres was later arrested in Nicaragua.

His defense attorney argued during trial that Ramon was a jealous, possessive lover and shot herself during a struggle over the gun.
