The two vehicles were traveling southbound on U.S. 27. According to FHP, 48-year-old Edelberto Espinosa-Vargas failed to realize the speed of 36-year-old Alexander Guerra's tractor trailer and attempted to change lanes.

In doing so, FHP said the right front of Espinosa-Vargas's blue tractor trailer struck the left rear of Guerra's trailer.

Espinosa-Vargas veered off the roadway into the median where the cab of the vehicle caught fire. FHP said Espinosa-Vargas was transported by air rescue to Broward Health Medical Center.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for the investigation and traffic was diverted to the northbound lanes for two-way traffic flow.

FHP said Espinosa-Vargas has been charged with careless driving.
